Think "Movement", Not "Exercise"!💙

One of the things often suggested to people who are depressed is that they exercise. The problem with that is that the word "exercise" generates the idea of getting hot and sweaty and putting in enormous amounts of vigorous energy that people who are depressed just don't have. 💙

So the concept of exercise is just overwhelming. What I would suggest instead is trying to work with the word "movement". So people who are depressed can sometimes take on board the idea of movement. Maybe getting up and doing a gentle walk for as far as they can or maybe just some gentle stretching. 💙

So the idea of moving the body may not seem as impossible as doing some vigorous exercise. So for depression I think it's much more helpful to think in terms of movement than it is to think in terms of exercise. 💙
